Pererenan
Pererenan is the quieter edge of the Canggu sprawl, immediately north of it: more rice field than road, a growing cluster of cafés, and a river-mouth beach that stays noticeably emptier than its neighbours.
Families who have already tried Canggu and found it loud often move here. You get most of the same infrastructure — cafés that expect children, a short ride to schools and supermarkets, other foreign families nearby — with a fraction of the scooter traffic and a lot more green space directly outside the door.
The trade-off is that it is genuinely a few minutes further from everything, and those few minutes matter on a school run or a hospital trip. It is also changing quickly; the quiet lane a family chose two years ago may now have construction on it, which is worth checking before committing to a long lease.
The beach is open ocean and the river mouth adds current, so it is a walking and sunset beach rather than a swimming one for young children. What it does offer is space — wide, flat, and rarely crowded, which is exactly what a toddler who has been in a villa all day needs.
