Berawa
Berawa sits inside greater Canggu but functions as its own neighbourhood — a short strip running down to the beach, with several international schools and a concentration of families within a few minutes' ride.
It is the part of Canggu that most obviously organises itself around families with young children. Beach clubs along the strip run kids' areas, several of the larger cafés have supervised play spaces, and the density of school-run traffic in the morning tells you how many households here are on a full-year rhythm rather than a holiday.
That density is also the drawback: Berawa is one of the busier and more built-up parts of the area, and the main road can be slow at school pick-up and again at sunset. Villas set back in the rice fields behind the strip are noticeably quieter, and still close enough to reach the beach or a school gate in a few minutes.
The beach at the end of the road is open ocean with a strong shore break — good for a late-afternoon walk and for surf lessons, not for small children in the water alone. Families who want calm swimming water day to day generally rely on a villa or club pool and save flat-water beach days for the east coast.
