Can you get a KITAS if your child is homeschooled in Bali?

Yes. Immigration issues a child's KITAS based on the parent's visa route (spousal, work, investor, or retirement), not on how the child is schooled. Homeschooling itself doesn't sponsor a KITAS, since it isn't a registered institution, so the permit still depends on a parent or an enrolled school sponsoring it.

A KITAS for a child living in Bali is a stay permit, not a school credential, so immigration doesn't ask what curriculum your child follows at home. What it does ask is who is sponsoring the child's stay. Most homeschooling families get their child's KITAS as a dependent under a parent's own permit, whether that's a spousal KITAS, a work KITAS tied to an employer, or an investor or retirement KITAS. If you want the full picture of how that route works for the working parent, see spouse KITAS work rights.

The other route is a student KITAS sponsored by a licensed school, which some families use even if they blend in homeschooling on the side. A homeschool group or online curriculum provider generally can't sponsor a permit on its own, since Indonesian immigration only recognizes accredited institutions as sponsors. If school enrollment is part of your plan at any point, our guide to KITAS for school-age kids walks through what documents the school will ask you for.

Once your child's KITAS is active, homeschooling doesn't need to be reported to immigration at all, and switching between homeschooling and a physical school won't affect the permit as long as the sponsoring parent's own status stays valid. The bigger challenge for most families is less about paperwork and more about routine, since homeschooled kids in Bali still need regular contact with other children outside the house. We've written about how homeschooled kids build friendships in Bali if that side of the transition is also on your mind.
