Is Canggu a good area for families in Bali?

Canggu suits many families who want an active, walkable, expat-heavy base with lots of kid-friendly cafés, playgroups and schools nearby — though it is busier and more built-up than quieter areas like Sanur or Ubud.

Canggu (and neighbouring Berawa and Pererenan) has become one of the most popular family bases in Bali. You’ll find a dense cluster of family cafés with play areas, kids’ clubs, international and Montessori-style schools, playgroups, and a large community of other parents — which makes settling in and finding friends much easier.

The trade-offs are traffic, construction and cost: Canggu has grown fast, roads can be congested, and rents sit at the higher end. Families who prefer calmer surroundings often look at Sanur (quieter, gentle beaches, established schools), Ubud (green, arts- and nature-focused) or the Bukit/Uluwatu area.

The “right” area really depends on your priorities — school, commute, budget and lifestyle. Compare neighbourhoods and ask the Knowmads guide about the specific streets and schools you’re weighing up.
